I had a burst of energy the week before starting my new job, and brilliantly decided to continue fixing up my sewing room with a new cutting table. I bought a free-standing kitchen cabinet at IKEA (only $300 compared to Koala's $1500). But I had to shuffle things around to make room for it: it's going in a niche where I had an old oak dresser; the dresser had to move where there was a bookcase full of quilt magazines; the bookcase could fit where there was an old pressboard filing cabinet. So I had to start by emptying the cabinet, carrying it to the garage, emptying the bookcase, moving it, reloading it, partially emptying the dresser and then moving it. Then I could carry in all the pieces of the IKEA piece. The two boxes it came in were too heavy for me to carry, so I opened them in the car and carried it in piece by piece. I did all this on Saturday, and started putting it together, but then I was totally exhausted and sore all over. The next day I could hardly move and my back has been aching ever since. Although it has been getting better, and today I finally finished the basic unit. Still have to put the drawers together but that should be fairly easy. At least now I can put my cutting mat on it (a new, bigger one) and cut some strips for a flannel quilt.

Sewing Room Update
I finished refolding all my yardage and it looks really nice. I'm surprised by how much fabric I have in the red spectrum as I don't think of myself as liking red and I've never made a red quilt. Perhaps it's time to try that. I was also surprised at how little there is in the purple area, since I've always liked purple. But in that case, I think it may have more to do with the lack of really good purples for sale.
The quantity of blues and greens is not surprising as I'm always attracted to those hues.
I still have a pile of fabric on the floor, but currently it's the scrap baskets dumped out, not yardage. I am (very slowly it seems) going through the scraps, cutting into usable strips and squares and discarding the too-small bits.

Sewing Room Cleanup
A couple of months ago, I just could not take the mess in my sewing room anymore and undertook a project to clean it out. Inspired by the book, Create Your Perfect Quilting Space, I started by sorting and refolding all my fabric. That turned out to be a big, big project on its own as the shelves across one wall were completely full and overflowing into piles on the floor. I'm almost done with this phase and will post 'after' pictures soon. Then I need to sort my scraps into a usable system (see Quiltville) and come up with a cutting table at the proper height to avoid backaches from bending over the sewing table.
